Congratulations to… the Junior School inter-school swimming team!

Posted on April 4, 2013 in Junior School latest news, Sport

Congratulations and well done to the Junior School inter-school swimming team (including some Senior School Year 7 swimmers) for their first place win!

On Thursday, 4 April, the inter-school swimming team went to Bilgoman to compete in the 2013 carnival.  The students are to be congratulated for their outstanding behaviour and excellent sportsmanship.  A big thank you to all the students who attended training with the specialised assistance of Mr Ford and Mrs Osborn.  Thank you to all the parents who came down to support their children.

After a 13 year drought from the championship trophy, Helena has once again brought it home.  It was super close in 2010, where we controversially came second by 1 point to St Anthony’s and the trophy has been just out of reach ever since!  But this year the students’ efforts in the pool were gutsy and remarkable.  Their teamwork, sportsmanship and encouragement of each other was nothing short of outstanding.

As you can see by the final results, our Helena students came through convincingly.

The results are as follows:

Place School Points
1st Helena College Junior School 411
2nd Glen Forrest Primary School 395
3rd Mount Helena Primary School 345
4th Darlington Primary School 325
5th Saint Anthony’s Blue 319
6th Gidgegannup Primary School 142
7th Saint Anthony’s Gold 134
8th Scared Heart Primary School 118

We are so proud of each swimmer in the team for his/her sportsmanship, commitment and determination. Congratulations to the team.

Congratulations to… runners club participants

Posted on March 25, 2013 in Senior School latest news, Sport

Congratulations to the members of the runners club who participated in the Darlington half-marathon on the weekend. Well done especially to Robbie Herzfeld, Year 12 student, and Cooper Campbell, Year 11 student, for running the Darlington half marathon. Neither boy had never run over 12km before so to run 21kms in under 1 hour 45 minutes was a fantastic effort. Also well done to a number of other runners club members for running in the 8km event, especially to Juliet Blundell, Year 10, who used the event as the product for her IB Middle Years Programme personal project.

Critchell, Keaton CRICKET

Congratulations to Keaton Critchell, one of 12 players that have been chosen to represent the Association of Catholic Colleges (ACC) cricket team against the combined government schools’ side at the WACA. The ACC is the association Helena College teams compete in for inter-school competitions.

Players were asked to nominate and were required to attend selection trials for the match. The standard of the players was very high and all boys were commended for their efforts in putting themselves forward for selection.

The match at this stage is scheduled for Tuesday, 2 April on the WACA.  School sport coordinator, Mr Joe Kendall, Health and Physical Education teacher at the Senior School commented, ‘Awesome effort from a very talented cricketer. The College is very proud of Keaton’s efforts in getting into the team. Keaton hit 65 runs off about 25 balls during the match on Monday and had all of Kent St High School (which is specialist cricket school) in awe of his shot making and big hitting.’
