Students at Helena College take an active role in meaningful and relevant community service, as part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP).
IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service—making a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.
The Service and Action component of the IB MYP begins in Year 6 and continues through to Year 10, when students also undertake community service as part of their Vocational Education Programme. In Year 10 the course works in conjunction with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Bronze Award), fulfilling the required 15 hours of service.
All community service programmes at Helena College encourage the development of leadership skills, social responsibility and citizenship. The programmes allow students to participate in an activity that will contribute to making their local or global community a better place.
