Incoming Principal

Welcome our new Principal – Mr Peter Coombs

After an extensive executive search domestically and internationally by an Independent recruitment agency, and with assistance from AISWA in the selection process, Helena College Council is excited to welcome Mr Peter Coombs to the Helena community.

The interview panel believes that Peter’s broad skill set and experience across the spectrum of skills required made him the standout candidate to lead and take the school from strength to strength.

Mr Coombs will be joining us in Semester Two 2020.

Until then, Mr Justin Pitt will continue in the role of Acting Principal.

About our new Principal

Peter is a very experienced educator having served for the past twenty years as a teacher and school leader at international schools in Taiwan, Hong Kong, The Netherlands and Singapore. Before heading overseas, he taught at several schools in Melbourne, the last being Toorak College.

Peter holds a Masters degree in Education with a focus on school leadership, and he is an advocate of an inquiry-based approach to teaching with the aim of making learning purposeful for each student.

He has presented at international education conferences on assessment and reporting and also served on independent school accreditation teams accrediting schools in Asia, Europe and Africa. Peter, along with his wife Karen and children Maggie and Reilly, who will be joining Kindergarten and Year Two, are excited about moving to the Perth hills and being part of the Helena College community.

‘I am thrilled to be joining the community at Helena College as Principal. As both an educator, and a parent of two children, the mission, vision and values of the College outline exactly the type of environment I want to be part of. I look forward to learning more about Helena College and meeting many of you soon.’ Peter Coombs, Incoming Helena College Principal
