Year 9 students from Helena College will represent WA in the National Finals of Opt-MINDS.
The team won the state finals in the Science Engineering category for their age group. Our Year 8 team won Honours in the same division.
The latest achievements are a continuation of the College’s success in Opti-MINDS.
In 2015, our Year 6 team won the National Finals (Juniors). Year 9 Tom Ford was part of that winning team and brings his experience to the Year 9 team for the finals in October this year.
College Enrichment coordinator, Shane Gray says all the students have done extremely well.
‘The College is proud of both teams for getting into the state finals. It was no easy achievement given the high level of competition this year.’
Opti-MINDS is a national inter-school competition to solve demanding, open-ended questions about Language Literature, Science Engineering, and Social Sciences. It requires highly developed skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving and effective communication. As an International Baccalaureate school, Helena College focuses on developing these global qualities in students.
