Our Wakakirri Dance Team has made it to the finals

Performing recently at The Perth Concert Hall against a number of other local WA schools, the Helena College Wakakirri team, with 98 students from years 3 to 6, has been officially awarded with the ‘Outstanding Environmental Story Award’.

This year’s theme ‘Reef Rescue’, tells the story of coral bleaching on our Coral Reefs. It conveys the important message of creating a more energy efficient world, by reducing carbon emissions and minimising the use of fossil fuels.

The team’s concert performance was also commended on the following areas.

  • Excellent construction and clarity
  • Excellent overall costume design
  • Excellent overall set design
  • Excellent performance teamwork
  • Excellent soundtrack mix

Students involved will now move into the next stage of finals and awards, performing again on Monday 6 September.

Wakakirri is a Story-Dance festival where schools compete as part of Australia’s largest national performing arts event for schools. Each year, students in Years 3 to 6 are given the opportunity to participate in Wakakirri, to theatrically tell a story using a combination of dance, creative movement and acting to pre-recorded music.
