In Year 6 leadership takes many facets from an individual personal challenge to group support and wider cohort direction. The Learner Profiles of being caring, effectively communicating and reflecting ongoingly culminate in the Year 6 Leadership Programme run throughout the year.
In 2020, after speeches and peer voting, we welcomed Tasmin Foster, Lyla Snape, Sierra Norman, Reagan Smith, Beatrice Stevens, Charlotte Walsh, Madison Elt, Phillip Mirco, Lucy Copping, Calum Edwards, Kirsty Sinclair, Holly Stamenich, Hunter Smith, Stella Young, Penelope Blyth and Alexander Beardsmore to the Year 6 Leadership Group. They have met regularly to discuss current issues and resolutions, delivering these ideas well to their peers.
Firstly, the leaders have taken responsibility for the maintenance of the Year 6 and wider area. They initiated a rubbish drive with entertaining posters to remind the cohort where the rubbish should be going, they have kept the Phys Ed gear in check and have provided suggestions on how the nature playground space could be further developed. In Term Three they invested some of their time in helping the gardener Mrs Crosse plant out the front of the school, near the start of the drop off area. We look forward to watching them grow across the year. Some leaders also assisted in our Greenbatch plastic recycling initiative, reminding people to bring in those labelled 1 or 2 that can be converted into 3D printing ink for use on many of their Innovation projects.
The team have also initiated and run a range of competitions to encourage all 6s to participate themselves and encourage each other even when things may be challenging. These have included the Easter Egg hunt, the Book Week parade and Taco Day. It was great to see the students’ creativity shine through. In the Rock Cup, the leaders did a fantastic job reminding everyone what sportsmanship is all about with their umpiring of dodgeball and cone ball. The group also encouraged others with interest-based events like the Inter-school Athletics and Year 6 Basketball Tournament.
Thank you to the Year 6 Leadership Group for all your contributions this year. We look forward to seeing your leadership qualities shine through in the future.
