Wakakirri success in 2022

We are delighted to confirm that Helena College has once again been nominated for a National Award in the annual Wakakirri Story Dance competition, following our recent performance at the Perth Concert Hall.  This year, the our story dance explore the negative effects gaming and gaming addiction can have on the health and well-being of children. Key to the story was showing that maintaining a healthy balance between playing on devices and being socially and physically active is the key to optimal physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The category in which we have been nominated is the Mental Health Story Award.

Wakakirri judge, Rohan Senior, said that our performance was ‘a colourful and joyous story executed very well.’ He also noted that it was a vibrant and energetic performance, with great use of props. The Performance and Production awards included:

  • Excellent polished performance
  • Excellent overall costume design
  • Excellent group dance
  • Best direction: Overall

Once all schools around Australia have performance, the National Award winners will be announced on 17 October 2022.
