Construction Begins on New Senior School Building

Senior School Thursday, 06 Aug 2026

It is with great excitement that we announce the commencement of construction on a new building at our Glen Forrest Campus.

The new two-storey building will provide four modern classrooms, with two classrooms on each level. Each pair of classrooms will be separated by an operable wall, allowing the spaces to be opened into one large learning area when required. This flexibility will support a variety of teaching and learning approaches, enabling staff to adapt the learning environment to best meet the needs of our students.

As part of the College's Master Plan, it was identified that additional teaching spaces would be required to provide greater flexibility to support our educational programs and the changing needs of the College. A key feature of the building is its flexible design. Through the use of operable walls, the two upstairs classrooms can be combined to create a large multipurpose space that will become an important hub for the College. This space will support a wide range of activities, including parent information meetings, WACE exams, year-level meetings, parent-teacher conferences, student presentations, art exhibitions, professional learning, and other community events.

The building has been carefully designed to complement the existing character and architecture of the Glen Forrest Campus, ensuring it blends seamlessly with our current facilities. At the same time, it incorporates contemporary features, including lift access between both levels, ensuring the building is accessible to all members of our community.

With Valtari Construction now on site, we anticipate welcoming students into the new building at the commencement of Term Four next year. While there will inevitably be some minor disruption during the construction period, every effort will be made to minimise the impact on teaching, learning and the daily operation of the College. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our community while these important works are underway.

This project represents another significant investment in the future of Helena College. It will provide outstanding learning spaces for our students, increase the flexibility of our teaching environments, and create facilities that will benefit students, staff and families for many years to come. We would like to thank the College Council for its continued support of this important project.

We look forward to sharing regular updates with our community, including photographs of the building's progress, as construction advances.

Important Notes:

  • In planning for this new facility, the College worked closely with the Shire of Mundaring to ensure the new building and related construction works met all environmental requirements, including that of bushfire safety.
  • Please note that parking near the Year 6 nature play area will be restricted during building works, and parents are requested to please use the Student Drop Off/Pick Up Zones on Bilgoman Road. We appreciate your patience as the new building takes shape.
