Year 6 at Helena College
By the time students finish Year 5, they area are ready for new challenges and excited to embrace a broader range of experiences. By Year 6, many students are also ready for new faces and new places, ready to establish the new routines and friendship groups that will help them to make a success of their high school journey. The Year 6 program at Helena College provides a gentle introduction to secondary school in a safe and caring environment.

Year 6 Interschool and Special Events: During the course of the year the Year 6s have many opportunities to involve themselves in focused year-group relevant competitions such as RAC Futures Challenge, Have-Sum-Fun, E-Sports, Creative Edge, RoboCup, Solar Cars, Interschool Swimming, Interschool Athletics, Interschool Chess, Interschool Cross Country. There are also some small group excursions for selected students such as Scitech Year 6 Workshop day and the Literature Centre Writers Workshop.
Clubs & Activities: The Year 6s are also encouraged to involve themselves in clubs available to all year levels at the Glen Forrest Campus throughout the year such as Art Club, Wellbeing Club, Homework Club, Chess Club, Tabletop Gaming Club and Book Club. Details of these clubs and activities are published on my.helena.
Instrumental Music: For students interested in learning music outside of the main curriculum, we invite you to explore the options available through our Instrumental Music Program in the 2026 Music Brochure.
Incursions and Excursions: In Year 6 students will also be involved in a number of incursions and excursions throughout the year to support their curriculum understanding and wider knowledge and application of learning. These include the Fremantle Maritime Museum, the Literature Centre, Author Visit, Kaarakin, Perth Hills Discovery Centre, Parliament Webinar and Time Money.
Helena College supplies a device for all students. In Year 6, all students will be provided with a school-owned laptop, which they will be able to take home. The fees for the College’s 1:1 device (laptop) program are incorporated into the annual tuition fee. Use of the device is governed by the Student Code of Conduct and the ICT Policy, both of which can be viewed on the Policy page of the website.

All Year 6s will participate in the Department of Education's in-term swimming program in Week Nine of Term One, 2026. Parents will be emailed additional information and a request for information on their swimming levels closer to the time.
